Discovering a Hidden Gem Café in Buam-dong: Bingsu and Cozy Atmosphere at 스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH)

Cuisine

If you're planning a trip to Seoul this fall, there’s one spot you absolutely must visit: the Bugak Skyway Drive Course (북악스카이웨이 드라이브 코스), one of the top three scenic driving routes in the city. This picturesque road winds through the lush mountains near Seoul, offering breathtaking views and a perfect escape from the city's hustle and bustle. And if you're taking this drive, don’t miss the opportunity to stop by a charming café in Buam-dong, 스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH), that offers not only a cozy atmosphere but also some of the best bingsu in town.

스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH) features three varieties of bingsu on its menu: Red Bean Bingsu (팥빙수, ₩13,000), Mango Bingsu (망고빙수, ₩14,000), and Persimmon Sujeonggwa Bingsu (홍시수정과빙수, ₩15,000). While the first two flavors can be found in many places, the Persimmon Sujeonggwa Bingsu is a unique treat only available here. This delightful dessert combines frozen persimmon with the spicy-sweet flavor of sujeonggwa (a traditional Korean cinnamon punch), creating a taste that’s both refreshing and truly Korean. If you’re looking to experience a unique Korean flavor, this bingsu is a must-try!

From the moment I stepped inside 스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH), the café felt warm and inviting, with a charming and quaint atmosphere. The space seemed to reflect the personal taste of the owners, an elderly couple whose love for life and style is woven into every detail of the place. What I appreciated most was the way the café catered to a wide range of tastes and preferences, appealing to both the young and the old. I visited with my wife and our college-aged daughter, and we all had an enjoyable and relaxing time.

Our daughter ordered the Persimmon Sujeonggwa Bingsu (홍시수정과빙수), my wife opted for a German ale-style beer called Ayinger (아잉거), and I chose the traditional Korean tea made with aged pear and balloon flower root (배도라지차). Each of us thoroughly enjoyed our choices. We also had fun guessing the café owner’s personality and experiences based on the eclectic menu and charming interior décor.

스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH) itself is a blend of vintage and cute, with handmade crafts adding a special touch to the overall décor. One of the things that set this café apart from others was the availability of beer, which provided a great alternative for those who prefer something other than coffee. Another thoughtful touch was the option to replace the milk in the bingsu with oat milk, making it a suitable option for those who are lactose intolerant.

The surrounding area of Buam-dong is ideal for a romantic date or a leisurely day out. With traces of old Korean architecture like fortress walls and traditional hanok houses, it’s a perfect place to take a stroll and soak in the history and culture. There are also plenty of unique spots to explore, such as music bars, book cafés, dessert cafés, and small craft shops. The neighborhood itself is full of hidden gems, with every alley offering something new to discover.

So, if you find yourself driving along Bugak Skyway or exploring the quaint streets of Buam-dong, make sure to stop by 스탐티쉬 (STAMMTISCH). Whether you're in the mood for a cool bingsu, a refreshing beer, or a comforting cup of tea, this café offers something for everyone. It’s the perfect way to take a break and enjoy a peaceful moment in one of Seoul’s most charming neighborhoods.
